Our research group is fascinated by how biology has evolved to use proteins to catalyze chemical and structural transformations that enable life to balance the dichotomous nature of trace metal nutrients.
Our curiosity finds an outlet in the discovery and characterization of function and molecular mechanisms: What is the function of each protein, how do those proteins function, and how can we re-engineer function?
To uncover the mechanisms, organisms use to balance the essentiality and potential toxicity of trace metal nutrients, we combine comparative genomics and data mining with in vitro and in vivo experimental characterization, including functional genomics, molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, and structural studies.
